U12

U12 players are typically 10 and 11 years old and have good skating skills.

U12 is designed to build growing ringette skills, strength, coordination and teamwork. Players move from basic play to competitive play. In U12 the shot clock rule is introduced. In addition to 1-2 practices a week and a game, the team will often arrange to play several tournaments throughout in the year.  Older players new to ringette should register in their birth year and will be moved to the appropriate level thereafter.

Skills learned:

  • Advanced skating skills, speed, endurance, edge control
  • Skating backwards with speed the whole length of the arena
  • Hold forward inside and outside edges and backward inside edges.
  • Crossovers
  • Ring handling
  • Shooting and passing
  • Advanced ringette rules
  • Competitive ringette strategy
  • Fitness
  • Friendship and teamwork

U12 games are played against other U12 teams from the Lower Mainland Ringette League, with home games at NWVRA rinks and away games at the home rinks of other LMRL teams.
